Another Eight Bird Flu Outbreaks in Assam

INDIA - The veterinary authorities have reported a further eight outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the state of Assam to the World Organisation of Animal Health (OIE).

The follow-up report is dated 11 December, and covers a further eight outbreaks in Kamrup, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang and Dibrugarh.

In total, 200,410 birds were involved: 1936 died and the rest were destroyed. Seven of the farms were described as small backyard flocks in a villages, while the other was a chick rearing farm. The H5N1 sub-type was confirmed in all cases.
