Boost for Poultry Project in Jharkhand
INDIA - Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) has received a substantial grant to develop poultry farming in the state. The sum of 10.93 million rupees (INR) has been sanctioned to Birsa Agricultural University by Indian Council of Agricultural Research to develop poultry suitable for farming in Jharkhand, according to Hindu News.
BAU sources said the State government would bear 25 per cent of the cost of the project, which will help Jharkhand increase its poultry stock and cut down its dependence on imports.
The project, which will be functional at the Ranchi centre of All India Coordinated Research Project on Poultry Improvement, will be implemented from the current fiscal itself, a BAU release says.
Keeping in mind the resource-poor farmers, emphasis would be given on development of such poultry breeds which could perform better under village management conditions, enabling higher returns in terms of eggs and meat.
BAU vice-chancellor, N.N. Singh, said five permanent posts have also been sanctioned under the project.
