The new poultry plant in Abelardo Luz, Brazil, according to Farming UK. It should have been opened in March but will now start production this month. The building was destroyed by fire, during the building operations in converting the old plant, into a new state-of-the-art facility.

The owner of the plant, Aves do Parque (Avepar), in concert with local businessman Celso Mattiolo, plan to slaughter 200,000 chicken per day over one million per week.

The plant is adapted for Halal facilities, to service primarily the Middle East and North African market.

Mr Mattiola said, "The global financial crisis will not effect our plans, as our market is immune to the problems," referring to the Gulf States.

The plant will employ a work force of 1,500, which will be a massive boost to the local economy.
