Low-Path Bird Flu Hits Belgium

The immediate notification report was submitted to OIE on 24 December. It describes two cases of LPAI. The first case - in Bocholt in the province of Limburg - began on 19 December and involved a total of 5,000 birds (ornamental birds, including 4,000 ducks and geese and 1,000 hens and pheasants). The second case was in Buggenhout in East Flanders (Oost-Vlaanderen). It involved 1480 free breeding geese.

In each case, only one bird showed signs of disease, and all birds were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N2 has been confirmed.
