Print This Page Germany Reports Nine New Cases of LPAI
GERMANY - The veterinary authorities have sent a new report to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about nine more cases of low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI).
The report (Follow-up Report no. 3) is dated 2 January 2009. It covers a further nine cases of LPAI involving a total of 97,597 birds (of unspecified type). Of these, 162 birds had shown symptoms. None died but all were destroyed.
Eight of the farms were located in Lower Saxony, as in previous outbreaks. The other case was in the neighbouring state of Saxony-Anhalt (Sachsen-Anhalt).
The presence of the H5N3 virus sub-type has been confirmed.
