The Australian Egg Corporation Ltd (AECL) states that the egg producer featured in the recent programme 'A Current Affair' in Western Australia is not Egg Corp Assured and the vision shown does not reflect the standards required by the ECA programme or the best management practices expected by the Australian egg industry.

Egg Corp Assured (ECA) is the national egg quality assurance programme developed specifically for Australian egg producers. The key modules of ECA are hen welfare, biosecurity, food safety, egg labelling and environmental management. The scope of ECA includes egg production and egg grading as well as packing.

The Australian Egg Corporation Limited (AECL) is proud of the quality assurance programme ECA, and works hard to maintain the integrity of the programme through regular third-party audits, independent spot checks and ongoing education seminars. AECL encourage the highest animal husbandry standards, and support the use of all lawful egg production systems and law abiding egg producers. AECL maintains that animal welfare outcomes are related more to the skills of our farmers than simply the production systems used.
