Print This Page High Path Bird Flu Reported in China
CHINA - The veterinary authorities have informed the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about a new outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
The Chinese veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification to OIE dated 17 May.
It reports a new outbreak of HPAI at Genggahu Lake in Hainan prefecture, Qinghai province in central China. It started on 8 May, when 121 wild birds were founds dead, and a nearby flock of 600 farmed birds (of unspecified type) were destroyed.
The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
