Mongolia Reports Bird Flu in Wild Population

MONGOLIA - The veterinary authorities have reported highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in wild birds to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The Mongolian veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification to OIE dated 9 August.

The report covers one outbreak of HPAI in wild birds at Doroo nuur in Arkhangai in central Mongolia. Fifty-six wild birds were found dead on 1 August.

Lab results have shown the virus to be of the H5 sub-type.

The last previous occurrence of HPAI in the country was at the end of July.
