Five New Bird Flu Outbreaks in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - Five new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported.

The veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No. 41 dated 24 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report covers five outbreaks starting between 28 February and 15 March. They occurred in the north and in the south of the country; three were on farms and two were in village flocks. In total, 5,208 were involved, of which, 2,442 died and 2,766 were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the virus has been confirmed.
