Peru Reports Another Case of Newcastle Disease

PERU - There has been one new outbreak of Newcastle disease in a backyard poultry flock the north-west of the country, which is described as 'resolved'.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 1 dated 3 January to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a single outbreak of Newcastle disease on a farm at Llapa de Armas in the state of Cajamarca. It started on 18 December 2010, with 22 birds in a backyard flock showing symptoms of the disease. Of these, 20 died. The outbreak is described as 'resolved' on 3 January.

There are no commercial breeding farms in the area, adds the report. The source of infection has not been identified.
