Viet Nam Reports Seven New HPAI Outbreaks

VIET NAM - Seven new outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported across the country.

The veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No. 49 dated 18 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

According to the report, there were seven new outbreaks of HPAI across the country between 28 March and 8 April, all in village flocks. In all, 6,932 birds were involved, of which 5,509 showed symptoms, 1,155 died and 5,509 were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
