Three New Bird Flu Outbreaks in Dhaka

BANGLADESH - Three new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported of Dhaka farms.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up report No. 33 dated 12 May to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes three new outbreaks of HPAI, all on commercial farms in the Dhaka area. The outbreaks started between 23 April and 8 May. In total, 11,270 birds were involved, 3,184 of which died and 8,086 have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
