Five New Bird Flu Outbreaks in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - Five new outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported in the same northerly province.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 55 dated 4 August to the World Organisation for Animal Health.

The report describes five outbreaks of HPAI, all in village poultry flocks in Nghe An province in the north of the country, starting between 17 and 27 July. In all, 2,526 birds were affected, 1,494 showed symptoms, nine died and 2,517 were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
