However, revenues from exports grew 4.2 per cent during January to September 2013, with a value of US$7.160 billion.

According to the CEO of UBABEF, Francisco Turra, virtually all segments recorded lower volumes except for chicken and genetic material, which guarantee positive and balanced results in added revenue of the national poultry industry.

"The slight recovery in the pace of shipments of chickens in the second half is remarkable, which favored the reduction of the negative balance of exports in the first half, which was almost five per cent. This indicates a less bumpy year beginning in 2014. In other segments, such as eggs, sales to the domestic market are more attractive, which have impacted exports," said Mr Turra.

Brazilian exports of chicken meat reached 355,400 tonnes in October, a record result for the month and 3.5 per cent higher compared to the same period in 2012. Revenues fell by 5.1 per cent to $681.22 million.

For the full year, shipments of poultry meat totaled 3.22 million tonnes, 1.4 per cent less in income compared to the first ten months of last year. In revenue, an increase of 5.3 per cent to $ 6.671 billion was recorded.

Shipments of eggs (in natura and egg products) totaled 9829 tonnes between January and October this year, a result reflecting a 54.8 per cent drop compared to the same period in 2012. Also there was a decrease in revenue by 48.7 per cent to $17.5 million.

Exports of turkey totaled 136,100 tonnes between January and October 2013, six per cent lower compared to the same period last year. Revenues also decreased by 4.3 per cent, totaling US$388.5 million.

Shipments of meat from geese, ducks and other birds reached 1168 tonnes between January and October this year, a whopping decrease of 55.2 per cent compared to the same period of 2012. There was also a reduction in revenue by 59 per cent, to US$4.250 million.
