Two Outbreaks of High-path Avian Flu in North Korea
NORTH KOREA - Two outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in poultry have been reported in the P'yongyang region.

By: The North Korean veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 16 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The report describes two outbreaks of bird flu.
The first was at Hadang chicken factory in Hyongjesan, starting on 21 March 2014. All 46,217 birds died in 'three layer cages'.
In the second, an unreported number of chickens died in one 'cage' at Sopo chicken factory in the same region on 27 March.
The presence of the H5N1 subtype of the avian flu virus has been confirmed.
The source of infection is unknown.
Usual measures have been pu tin place to control the spread of infection: quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening and disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s). There is no vaccination and no treatment of affected birds.
The last outbreak of HPAI in the country was in May 2013.
