Illegal Animal Movement Suspected in Lebanon Bird Flu Outbreak

LEBANON - An outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza has been found in Lebanon.

The farm, in Al Biqa province, held 80,000 birds and experienced abnormal mortality.

The farm unit was immediately put under quarantine. 20,000 birds died and another 60,000 were destroyed in the outbreak.

Epidemiological investigations and epidemiological sampling are on – going on the area.

The source of the outbreak was listed in Lebanon's report to the OIE as 'illegal movement of animals'.
