"Novus International's mission is to help feed the world wholesome affordable food, so we're in this journey of helping produce food," said Galo. "Our customers are impacted by the need to perform the typical drivers of profitability and being efficient in their performance. That's certainly an area of significant interest to Novus International and where we can leverage our assets to help our customers."

Other key drivers for the poultry industry include food safety, gut health, animal well-being, sustainability and environmental issues. More recently, the consumer-driven trend of moving toward antibiotic-free production practices continues to gain popularity.

"Our goal is to position ourselves so we can help address these pain points of our customers, and we have significant resources to help with our team all over North America and the world," he said.

When antibiotics are removed, some of the biggest challenges poultry face come through enteric disorders such as necrotic enteritis. These disorders lead to performance losses, condemnations, mortality and various other concerns for producers that cannot be ignored.

Project Horizon, Novus' approach to assist producers move toward antibiotic free production, is an opportunity to help customers work through a highly relevant issue, he said.

"Novus has value-added technologies to help and an understanding of the gut and gut health," Galo noted. "Those type of pains become relevant when you don't have a tool, like a very effective antibiotic management program and nutrition. Our goal is to leverage our people and knowledge all over the world. We've done this in other parts of the world for many years and are well-positioned to help the industry in the United States address this concern."
