The Sinyavinskaya operation has put into operation three new poultry houses, each with a capacity of 750,000 eggs per year, according to Meat Russia.

The main competitor of the plant, Roskar, produces 620,000 eggs per year so Sinyavinskaya is set to become the largest egg producer in Leningrad Region.

The construction of the new poultry production complex at the existing Sinyavinskaya facility takes place within the framework of the national program, Agricultural Complex Development. The total cost of the investment is 3 billion rubles (RUB), where RUB2 billion were provided by Sberbank (Savings Bank of the Russian Federation). Despite the current global economic crisis, the poultry plant's management is confident about stable financing of the project.

Next year, another 12 state-of-the-art poultry houses are to be built, and by 2011 their total number will be 18. The forecast production capacity of the new plant will be about 1.25 billion eggs per year. Nikita Melnikov, General Director of the plant, added that the new equipment will allow savings in electricity and to the ten-fold increase in production output.

Mr Melnikov added that by 2011, when the project is fully implemented, Sinyavinskaya will have a 70 per cent share of the market in the Northwestern Federal District – up from the present 40 per cent share.

The management of Sinyavinskaya is also planning to start exporting to Europe in the near future.

Egg production has becoming more and more attractive sector for investors. Demand is constantly growing while the the number of producers is not increasing. Most poultry plants specialize in poultry meat production, including the Roskar and Severnaya facilities, according to Meat Russia.
