Newcastle Disease Recurs in Fighting Birds
PERU - A second report has been received about an outbreak of Newcastle disease in a flock of fighting cocks.The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 23 July to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The report describes one outbreak of Newcastle disease in a flock of 211 fighting cocks in the village of Pueblo Nuevo, near Chepé in the region of La Libertad on the north-west coast of the country. In total, 27 birds showed symptoms, 11 died and 16 cockerels were destroyed.
A number of control actions have been implemented by the authorities.
This is the fourth outbreak of Newcastle diseases in the country since December 2009.
