Massey Researcher Wins Top International Award
NEW ZEALAND - Professor Velmurugu 'Ravi' Ravindran was awarded the Poultry Nutrition Research Award by the Poultry Science Association at its annual meeting last month.Professor Ravindran is the first non-American researcher to receive the award, which is in recognition of his career of research.
Professor Ravindran, from the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Human Health, specialises in poultry nutrition, with emphasis on nutrient metabolism, feed enzymes, feed evaluation, amino acid availability, gut flora management and early nutrition in poultry.
He has had a notable international career, having held academic and research positions in Sri Lanka, Canada, the United States and Australia. He is also a member of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations Expert Committee on new feed resources in animal nutrition.
Professor Ravindran has published three books and 30 chapters and has been recognised from peers in over 1,000 citations. He has also served on the editorial boards of several prestigious academic journals, including British Journal of Nutrition, Animal Feed Science and Technology, Journal of Applied Poultry Research and Journal of Animal Science.
