UK - Farmers are being encouraged to produce more food to feeding a growing global population. But what role can livestock production play in offering healthy, nutritious and sustainable food?

With much debate about the healthiness of food from livestock - particularly red meat and dairy - it is crucial public health policy is based on factual, up-to-date information.

The opportunities and limitations of producing food from animals also need to be properly assessed if we are to develop ethical, sustainable and welfare-friendly ways to feed the world.

The British Society of Animal Science’s annual conference will explore the challenges the livestock industry faces in finding ways to produce food which is both good for consumers and for the environment.

Held at the University of Nottingham on 24-25 April 2012, the conference will also consider how to ensure animal health remains at the forefront of any developments in food production.

Exploring the work of those leading research into livestock production and nutrition management, the conference will bring together the latest knowledge and developments from commercial and research vets, those working in the farming and food industry, advisors, farmers and policy-makers.
