Avian Flu H5N1 Outbreak in Nepal

NEPAL - An outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus H5N1 has occurred in Nepal.

The outbreak was reported by Dr Nar Bahadur Rajwar, Director General, Department of Livestock Services in Lalitpur, Nepal

The outbreak started on 27 August at Sanepa-2, Sanchal, Lalitpur in Bagmati.

In total, there were 2,500 cases at a commercial layer farm rearing dual-purpose birds, and all birds died as a result.

The last outbreak in the country was in March 2012. The cause of this latest outbreak is unknown and it is described as 'resolved'.
