No Further Newcastle Disease Cases Reported in Romania
ROMANIA - Measures taken to prevent further outbreaks of Newcastle disease have proved successful, according to an update from the OIE.

By: An outbreak was reported earlier this month in Zarnesti, Tohanu Vechi in the region of Brasov.
In total, there were 216 cases, resulting in 212 deaths, with 533 birds susceptible. As a result, 105 birds were destroyed.
Following the outbreak, control measures in accordance with the provisions of the European Council Directive 92/66/CEE were applied.
Modifying stamping out was finished. Killed and dead poultry were disposed of.
Intensive surveillance in the region is applied as well as normal surveillance in the rest of the country.
Reinforced biosafety measures were ordered on the entire Romanian territory.
The origin of the disease remains unknown, but it might be attributed to wild birds coming from the northeast of the continent, in the migration process.
Typing and characterisation of the strain isolates are in progress.
