Young Farmers Day for Young Farmers and Students

GERMANY - The future of agriculture lies not with new technologies or policies but in the hands of today's youth. In recognition of the important role the young of today play in shaping tomorrow's agricultural landscape, EuroTier 2012 welcomes all young farmers and students with a series of career-oriented talks at Young Farmers Day.

To be held on Thursday, 15 November, the event caters to all interested students and young farmers. The day-long event will feature a broad range of topics relevant to young farmers and would-be agriculturists, such as trainee opportunities at DLG, what farm apprenticeship entails and career tips on the different agricultural sectors.

Job forums in the poultry, swine, cattle and nutrition sectors will help young participants align their career expectations with actual field practice. Ending the day's event is an international panel discussion that looks at the agriculture sector from a global perspective. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and set discussions going during this two-hour session.

“Although this is just a one-day event catering to a select group of participants – students and youth – we know from the feedback received from previous years that the importance of Young Farmers Day far exceeds its low profile at EuroTier,” says Leonie K. Hug, Project manager.

“The broad ranging interests and dept of discussions at previous sessions are a constant reminder of the need to engage our youth and potential agriculturists. Truly, the food supply of tomorrow lies in the hands of these young people.”

The Young Farmers Day at EuroTier 2010 was attended by over 500 participants from Denmark, Great Britain, Poland and other countries in Europe.

Besides learning about the latest know-how and trends in farming, this tech-savvy group also had the opportunity to get to know the companies exhibiting and network with their counterparts from around Europe. The annual Young Farmers Party, wrapping up the day's event, offered an excellent opportunity for all participants to get to know each other in a relaxed and informal setting."
