Livestock, Poultry Sales Increase by 2.2 Per Cent

UKRAINE - The first 10 months of 2012 have seen cattle numbers increase by almost 53,000. In turn, sales of livestock and poultry in live weight increased by 2.2 per cent, said Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Mykola Prysiazhniuk.

According to the Agriculture minister, Ukraine is experiencing a steady increase in the numbers of livestock and poultry, as well as increases in their productivity. Since January cattle numbers have increased by almost 53,000 head and pigs by 123,700 head compared with last year.

"It's nice to emphasize that today in Ukraine, we can note the positive results in the field of animal husbandry," said Minister Prysiazhniuk.

"This applies not only to suspend cattle numbers decline, but also the growth of other equally important indicators of the industry."

The agriculture minister informed that as of November 1 in all categories, there are about 5 million head of cattle and more than 8 million pigs. The slaughter volume so far for 2012 is 2.4 million tons of livestock and poultry in live weight.
