Germany Reports Low-Path Bird Flu on Duck Farm

GERMANY - Low-pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 sub-type has been reported on a duck farm in the state of Brandenburg.

The veterinary authority in Germany sent Follow Up Report No. 1 dated 18 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes an outbreak of low-pathogenic bird flu on a duck farm in Seelow in the state of Brandenburg, which started on 15 February.

Of the 14,500-bird flock, 22 ducks were found to have a sub-clinical infection. All the birds have been destroyed.

The virus has been confirmed as the H5N1 subtype. The source of infection has not been identified

Quarantine and movement controls are in place.
