More Consumer Protection Follows Egg Mislabelling

GERMANY - The region of Lower Saxony has announced its first action following the revelation that millions of eggs have been wrongly labelled.

The new red-green government in Hanover has announced a new national initiative aimed to increase confidence of consumers of organic products, reports Europe Online of Germany.

The Agriculture Minister, from the Green Party, Christian Meyer, has said that consumer protection will the increased across the region of Lower Saxony.

The move follows an announcement from the state prosecutor's office in Oldenburg that millions of eggs - mostly from Lower Saxony but also from other regions - have been wrongly labelled as organic.
