New Outbreak of Low-Path Bird Flu in Lower Saxony

GERMANY - Low-pathogenic avian influenza of the H7N7 sub-type has been found at a farm in Lower Saxony.

The veterinary authority in Lower Saxony sent Follow Up Report No. 2 dated 24 June to the World Orgnaisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a sub-clinical infection of the H7N7 subtype of the virus at a farm in Emsland in Lower Saxony, which was observed on 24 May. Four hundred birds (type unspecified) of a flock of 13,406 were found to be affected. The flock has now been destroyed.

The source of infection is unknown.

A similar outbreak has been reported; it started nine days previously on another farm in Lower Saxony.
