Newcastle Disease Reported in Israeli Broiler Flock

ISRAEL - Newcastle disease has been reported in a broiler flock in the south of the country.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 24 December to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report described an outbreak of Newcastle disease in a flock of six-week-old broilers in Beer-Sheva in the southern region of Hadarom. Around 4,000 of the 40,000-bird flock were affected, and 1,200 died. The remaining birds have been destroyed.

This is the first outbreak of the disease in the country since the end of September 2013.

The source of infection is described as 'unknown or inconclusive'; the epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
