Poultry Company Purchases Marshall Durbin
US - Mar-Jac Poultry finalised a deal on Friday (31 January) to purchase all of Marshall Durbin’s assets, including the Jasper plant. The plant in Jasper opened for the first time Monday as a Mar-Jac Poultry AL processing plant.

"We are excited, not just for us, but for the employees and Jasper too," Mulham Shbeib, Mar-Jac’s chief financial officer, said Tuesday.
Shbeib said Marshall Durbin employees at the plant were given the option to apply to Mar-Jac prior to the transition and almost all were hired by the company to continue working at the plant.
"Our goal is to stabilise the company," Mr Shbeib said. "We look forward to working with the people, have a positive impact in the community and make the company profitable."
Shbeib said the Jasper plant didn’t see an interruption of operations through the transition and should be able to maintain its pace of processing approximately one million chickens per week.
Mar-Jac was founded in 1954 and is headquartered northeast of Atlanta, Georgia. The purchase increases the company’s workforce by almost two-thirds, adding 1,000 employees in Alabama and 1,000 in Mississippi to the current 1,200 in Georgia.
In addition to the plant, Mar-Jac also purchased the Marshall Durbin hatchery, feed mill and distribution center in Alabama.
Marshall Durbin representatives could not be reached for comment on the sale.
