New Outbreak of H5N1 Bird Flu Reported in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - A new report has been received of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian flu in a village poultry flock in Ben Tre province in the south of the country.

The veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No.14 dated 12 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a single outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a village poultry flock at Cam Son in Ben Tre province. Of the 1,419 birds in the flock, 321 died and the rest have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the virus has been confirmed.
