Viet Nam Reports H5N1 Outbreaks in Two Provinces

VIET NAM - The Vietnamese veterinary authorities have reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Can Tho and Gia Lai.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report No.11 on 7 March, according to which a total of 8,243 birds were found susceptible, out of which 6,072 and 660 deaths were reported. A total of 7,583 birds were destroyed.

The OIE, in conjunction with the country's competent authorities, have applied several control measures to contain the situation.

The source of the outbreaks has not yet been determined.
