More Low-Path Bird Flu Found in South African Ostriches

SOUTH AFRICA - The low-pathogenic H5N2 bird flu virus has been detected in ostriches at three farms.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No.1 dated 7 October to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

Subclinical cases of the low pathogenic H5N2 avian flu virus have been found in commercial ostriches on three farms in Western Cape province between 22 July and 1 September.

A total of 1,647 birds of the 4,099 involved tested positive for the virus. None has died or been destroyed.
