ISRAEL - Two new outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in Haifa, involving broiler breeders and growing turkeys. The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No.1 dated 25 January to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
It describes two new outbreaks of avian flu, both in Haifa..
The first was at Binyamina-Giv'at, where a 36-week-old grandparent broiler breeder flock of 17,000 birds suffered sudden mortality of 1,700 birds in an outbreak starting on 20 January. The remaining birds were destroyed on 25 January.
The second outbreak started in a turkey flock two days later at Maggal in the same area. Of the 40,000 10-week-old turkeys on the farm, 15,000 showed symptoms and 5,000 died. The remaining birds will be destroyed.
