Russia Updates German Poultry Ban

28 January 2015, at 3:40pm

RUSSIA – Russia has blocked imports of live poultry and hatching eggs from specified German districts on avian influenza grounds and reopened trade elsewhere.

Temporary restrictions have been imposed on Western Pomerania, Cloppenburg, Lower Saxony and Uckermark as of 27 January, following the outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N8 strain in Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, Saxony-Anhalt.

Uckermark’s restrictions are justified because the area is in a quarantined zone and lies in close proximity to the outbreak, said Russian animal and plant surveillance organisation Rosselkhoznadzor.

The regions of Osnabrück, Emsland, Vechta, Graftschaft Bentheim (Lower Saxony), Greiz (Thuringia), Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis (Baden-Wurtenberg) have seen restriction lifted.
