Four Outbreaks of High-path Avian Flu Reported by Taiwan
TAIWAN - Four outbreaks of H5N8 high-path avian flu in geese and native chickens have been noted in a new official report. The cases occurred between mid-January and late April 2015.

By: According to the veterinary authority in Taiwan, there have been four new outbreaks of H5N2 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in poultry since January 2015.
Follow-up Report No.15 dated 12 May to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), abnormal mortality was observed in four poultry farms in Changhua, Yunlin and Pingtung counties.
These occurred on 15 January, 4 February and two outbreaks started on 24 April. Two of the farms had geese, the other two outbreaks were in native chickens.
Samples were sent to the Animal Health Research Institute, where the H5N8 subtype HPAI was confirmed.
The farms were put under movement restrictions. All animals on the infected farms were culled, and thorough cleaning and disinfection have been conducted.
Surrounding poultry farms within a 3-km radius of the infected farms were put under intensified surveillance for three months.
