Telangana State on Bird Flu Alert Again

INDIA - Avian flu is feared to be the cause of death of hundreds of chickens in Ranagreddy district.

The bird flu scare is back, reports New Indian Express in Hyderabad.

Alerted by death of about 500 to 1,000 chickens in a poultry farm located in the area of Hayathnagar in Ranagreddy district, animal husbandry department suspected it might be a case of bird flu. A team of veterinary doctors were rushed to the farm on 7 May to conduct post-mortems, collect samples from the dead and live birds at the farm.

In April, bird flu was detected in a poultry farm located in Thorrur village in the same area. Hundreds of thousands of birds were culled to contain the infection.

The farm where the latest chicken deaths have been reported is located beside Thorrur village.
