Four Further US Avian Flu Outbreaks Confirmed

US - Four more outbreaks of H5N2 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been confirmed by the US Department of Agriculture.

The latest outbreaks push the total number of detections to 201, affecting a total of 44,671,073 birds.

The new confirmed outbreaks are:

  • Minnesota, Brown county - 7,300 commercial turkeys;
  • Iowa, Hamilton county - 17,000 commercial turkeys;
  • Minnesota, Meeker county - 4,900 commercial turkeys;
  • Minnesota, Renville county - 29,300 commercial turkeys.

The new cases bring the confirmed detections to 95 in Minnesota, affecting 8,262,260 birds.

Iowa has now seen 65 confirmed detections, with 29,112,500 birds affected.

Unconfirmed cases continue to be reported, for example in Iowa the latest reports are of two more presumed outbreaks affecting a total of 57,000 commercial turkeys. The new presumed outbreaks are in Hamilton and Calhoun counties.
