The Pakistan Poultry Association welcomed the move, saying that there will be unhindered expansion in poultry production, reported Pakistan Breaking News.

The association also said it will act to bridge the protein gap, and that the industry will be instrumental in restricting the price increase of other meats.

This and an additional 2 per cent to be charged on poultry feed and its ingredients would have increased the cost of chicken by Rs18 per kg, according to farmers, the association said in a press release.

The farmers, who cannot pass additional cost on to consumers and whose produce prices are governed by demand and supply, have been saved anxiety over whether they would be able to recover the additional cost from market prices or not, the release said.

The decision by Pakistan's Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to change the tax proposal was also welcomed by the wider business community, reported Pakistan Today.

Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF) president and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain applauded the move.
