Three Avian Flu Outbreaks in Ghana

GHANA - There have been three new confirmed avian flu outbreaks in Ghana.

The outbreaks are of one of the H5 serotypes.

They occurred in two backyard flocks and one farm, all in the Greater Accra regions.

The total susceptible population of the infected flocks was 31267, with 2780 cases which all died from the disease. The rest of the birds were slaughtered as a precaution.

The origin of the outbreaks is unknown.
