There were 1540 cases in total, out of a susceptible population of 9076. All the infected birds died, and the remaining birds were destroyed to prevent the disease spreading.

One of the sites affected was a duck farm, and the other was an abattoir containing native chickens.

The outbreaks were detected by abnormal mortality. Samples were collected from the dead birds and sent to the national laboratory, which confirmed the disease as subtype H5N2.

The outbreaks occurred in Yunlin and Pingtung counties.
