The Department of Animal Husbandry and Breeding, part of Russia's Ministry of Agriculture, announced the results after carrying out an analysis of state data as part of the development programme for agriculture in the country.

Egg production on agricultural enterprises (excluding private farms) in Russia increased by 3.1 per cent compared with the corresponding period in 2014, and reached 27.7 billion eggs.

"Significant increases in poultry meat production in agricultural organisations were observed in Pskov, Ivanovo and Magadan regions. Increased production of eggs was recorded in the Saratov region, Chechnya and Kabardino-Balkaria.

"This was made possible due to the reconstruction and modernisation of existing, and commissioning of new, facilities for animals," said the head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Breeding, Vladimir Labinov.

He also stressed that the further development of the industry is possible through the development of innovative technologies and livestock breeding, and introduction of new methods of processing of poultry meat and eggs, to increase export potential.
