Crystal Diamond has a 30% share of the domestic market and plans to continue expanding in a country with 55 million inhabitants and a rapidly growing poultry industry, where annual consumption is around 5 kilograms per person.

The seminar had several speakers who addressed a number of important topics. It started with a welcome from the general manager and a presentation of Crystal Diamond current updates and plan along with trends in poultry for the current year in Myanmar. This was followed by a welcome from Ross and a review of Aviagen R&D and genetic improvement in breeding stock, brought through the use of innovation and technology.

A further presentation addressed the importance of broiler management in brooding and lighting of the flocks along with an informative look at open house management and then broiler housing involving closed systems in market conditions like Myanmar. The program closed with an insightful review of broiler nutrition for hot climate conditions from an Aviagen nutritionist.

Ross and Crystal Diamond are focused on supporting the day old chick suppliers to the diverse base of small farmers in the market. The company started a broiler breeder operation in 2007 with support from Aviagen and then a grandparent facility in 2013, some 60 km northwest of Yangon where it also has a parent stock hatchery and a broiler hatchery. The company supplies parent stock chicks and day old chicks under the brand name “Diamond” which is a well known and recognized brand in the industry.

Customers responded positively to the seminar with a dealer, Ko Sarthu commenting, “The seminar was very useful for us. Now we have a better understanding of basic broiler operation such as management in brooding, the importance of brooding and how it will effect on later broiler performance if the brooding management is not good at the beginning.”

Another dealer, Phyo Nu Khine said, “We got a lot of knowledge from the seminar. We got to know the current updates of Crystal Diamond and the genetic improvement in recent broilers. All other topics in the presentations proved very useful for us.”

Chang Hee Lee, Asia technical service manager, Aviagen, said, “It was very successful seminar to share our experience and knowledge of the broiler and the R&D program for genetic improvement, management, ventilation and nutrition. As the Myanmar broiler market is emerging along with economic growth, Crystal Diamond will be one of the strongest leaders of this industry.”

Mark Wright, Asia Regional Technical Service Manager, Aviagen commented, “Aviagen is pleased to support Crystal Diamond as the Ross distributor for Myanmar. The technical and specialist team will support the company in all aspects of technical advice as Crystal Diamond expands its facilities to meet increased market demand. This seminar helps to bring the Aviagen technical service in direct contact with the Crystal Diamond customers.”
