In April, shipments totalled 421,000 tons, 25 per cent higher than the previous year. This is the second best result in the recorded history of the industry.

Accumulated exports in 2016 so far reached 1.46 million tons, 15.4 per cent higher than in the first four months of 2015.

The balance is even more positive in actual revenue, an increase of 28.7 per cent in income for the month of April and 27.1 per cent in the quarter.

"The international market remains favourable to Brazilian exports, despite the high production costs that we faced at the beginning of the year.

"This is one of the sectors that has more wealth generated for the country, therefore, it is essential to preserve the competitiveness of the production chain," said Francisco Turra, chief executive of ABPA.
