The fall of sterling against most other currencies means that eggs from the continent will be more expensive when wholesalers order, the report said.

"This just might enable UK eggs to regain a couple of pence, which is critical at these crippling low levels," it continued.

The report also said that imports of poultry meat will be less attractive, leading to a good week in terms of demand.

"Prices have been flat but it is hoped that they will see a much needed rise with the ending of Ramadan and potentially less pressure from imports. In turn, it is hoped and anticipated that wholesale price rises are passed onto our members immediately," the bulletin said.
