Incubadora Santander produces about 3.5 million eggs a day, and plans to make use of the co-digestion of dry chicken manure from the laying hens as feedstock and process water during energy production.

The plant will be made by German plant manufacturer Weltec Biopower, and can be operated on the chicken manure without purchasing any additional substrate. Through the co-digestion, the digestate will reach a high fertiliser value, enabling it to be returned into the plant‘s agricultural substance cycle for efficient use as liquid manure on its own fields.

The Colombian government has started supporting the generation of renewable energies, and the country's agriculture industry has a large potential to increase biomass energy production. With the help of technology, Weltec Biopower said the plans of the Colombian government are likely to succeed: to increase the share of renewable energies in the power network to 6.5 per cent by 2020.
