Compared to the base year, 2009, antibiotics use in chickens has declined by 71 per cent. In the first half of 2016 alone, antibiotics use decreased by 18 per cent compared to 2015.

It is unclear to what extent the use of antibiotics contributes to the problems of antibiotic-resistant infections in humans. NEPLUVI said the poultry sector has taken its responsibility by reducing their use in recent years, but a recently adopted new plan of action should reduce antibiotics use even further.
