In recent studies conducted under commercial-like conditions, turkeys fed BioPlus® 2B - Chr. Hansen’s dual-strain probiotic feed supplement for poultry - demonstrated substantial improvements in weight gain and feed efficiency.

According to Mickaël Rouault, Chr. Hansen’s global product manager for poultry, these improvements confirm synergies between the product’s unique strains of Bacillus subtilis and B. licheniformis, which work in different, but complementary ways to improve intestinal integrity and function.

“These findings reinforce the well-documented link between turkey performance and intestinal health,” he says. “Maintaining healthy microbial diversity in the gut is critical not only to meeting turkeys’ unique nutritional needs, but also to limiting harmful bacterial infections that can have a serious economic impact.”

In addition, B. subtilis and B. licheniformis enhance digestibility by producing a wide range of enzymes that are involved in carbohydrate, protein and lipid metabolism. By adapting enzymatic action to the substrate, BioPlus® 2B® is proven to increase energy, protein and amino acid release from several individual feed ingredients, as well as commercial turkey feed. It has also been shown to increase intestinal surface area in turkeys, which increases their capacity to absorb nutrients.
