Zhanjiang's Animal Husbandry Development Gets a Push

CHINA - Zhanjiang's livestock farming bases have been required to develop market-oriented feature products along with quality improvements at a working conference held on 13 March.

Zhanjiang's animal husbandry sector realized stable healthy development last year, the third highest among Guangdong cities, hitting an output value of 10.8 billion yuan ($1.6 billion), an increase of 4 per cent year on year.

Zhanjiang currently owns 27 famous agriculture brands, including Ankang Pork (Tuzhu) and No 1 Pork (Tuzhu), both named among Guangdong's 10 most famous agri-products last year. The total brand value amounts to 4 billion yuan.

In addition, Zhanjiang has formulated basic and standardized regulations for feeding and processing chicken in order to prepare for geographical indication (GI) applications.

It has been demanded that three to five livestock cultivation bases be built up this year through supply-side reform to integrate advantageous resources and speed up the industrialization processes in the way of green development.
