Before the fire, approximately 350,000 hens were kept on the facility which produces around 10 million eggs per year. The fire broke out at 2:30am and, according to Newsweek, 750,000 gallons of water was needed to extinguish the fire, but the nearest hydrant was 7 miles away.

"The first priority at all of our farms is the welfare and safety of our employees and the health of our hens," vice president of operations at Konos Rob Knecht said. "We are thankful for the work of all the fire departments that helped yesterday."
